Sixth Grade News

The end of the third quarter is Friday, March 29th. Please refer to FastDirect to see if your child has any missing assignments. If copies are needed, please have your child ask at the start of the week. I will not make any copies of missing work after Wednesday.

Service hours are also due next Friday.

All math classes need to make sure to have all missing assignments, corrections, and signed tests in to Mrs. Runge by Friday, March 29.


Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will be studying "Solids" next week and we will focus on finding the volume of rectangular prisms and cylinders.

  • Math 2 is working on Chapter 8 in their textbooks. They are studying data analysis. They will spend next week surveying and collecting data on students of St. John's.

  • Algebra will continue their study of Chapter 10, “Quadratic Equations & Functions”.

  • Geography - There will be a cumulative test of Latin America on Thursday, March 28th.

Sixth Grade News

The end of the third quarter is fast approaching. Please remember that service hours are due by that date, as well as any missing homework from the third quarter.

Donations for our Disney auction basket are due next week!


Happening in Class:

  • Math 1 will wrap up their first "Geometry" unit with a test on Wednesday, March 20. They will then begin another "Geometry" unit focusing on 3D objects.

  • Math 2 will review for a test on Wednesday, March 20 on Chapter 7, "Surface Area & Volume".

  • Algebra will wrap up their study of Chapter 9, "Polynomials & Factoring". They will also take a test on Wednesday, March 20

  • English - We have moved from the 6-Traits of writing into the textbook where we will be looking at how to better our writing conventions. A chapter test will follow-the week of March 25th.

  • Science - There will be a test on chapter 1 about Earth’s atmosphere on Thursday, March 21st. The study guide was sent home today.

Sixth Grade News

The end of the third quarter is on March 29th. Please remember that service hours are due by that date, as well as any missing homework from the third quarter.

Next week Friday, the HSP students will be taking part in a “Coffee House” chat and are allowed to bring something to drink during that time (soda, coffee, etc.) During this chat we split up the boys and girls and spend about a half hour talking about different social issues from a Christian perspective.

Happening in Class:

  • Math - Pi Day is on Thursday, March 14 (3.14). Throughout next week each class will work with circles or circular forms in a variety of activities. Each student is encouraged to bring in a circular treat to share with their class on Thursday for the actual Pi Day celebration.

  • Reading 2 - We have finished our novel, The Best Bad Luck, we will now be making collages that demonstrate our understanding of both characters and themes the book presents.

  • English - We have completed our study of the what the 6-Traits are; we will now have a culminating test on the 4 main parts of all of them on Tuesday.

  • Geography - On Tuesday, there is a South America map test. There is a review on Google Classroom.

  • Social Studies - We have started our study of Ancient Rome. We will be working through two chapters of the book before taking a test.

Sixth Grade News

Please ask your child if they need any school supplies! We still have some students who are in desperate need of pencils!

Our auction basket theme is Disney this year. If you are willing, please send in donations of items or a monetary donation and PTL will shop for items. We do not currently have a lot of items so please consider donating. It can be books, toys, dolls, clothes, gift cards, etc.


Happening in Class:

  • Algebra will continue to work on Chapter 9, "Polynomials & Factoring".

  • Math 1 is studying "Geometry". Currently, they are classifying two dimensional polygons and working on finding their area.

  • Math 2 will continue to learn Chapter 7, "Surface Area & Volume". The focus next week will be on surface area.

  • English - We are starting 6-Traits unit on Word Choice. We will be doing activities that relate to it in class this week, with a quiz on all traits to follow.

Sixth Grade News

Today was mid-term of the third quarter. Grades will be re-opened next week Friday.

Happening in Class:

  • Algebra will take a test on Chapter 8, "Exponents & Exponential Functions". They will then begin a new unit of study on Chapter 9, "Polynomials & Factoring".

  • Math 1 will begin a new unit next week studying "Geometry".

  • Math 2 will take a test on their first geometry unit of Chapter 6 on Monday. They will then begin another geometry unit with Chapter 7. They will explore volume of many 3-D shapes.

  • English - We are now working on a unit in the textbook. We are looking at subject/verb agreement as well as verb tenses. The test for this unit will be on Wednesday.

  • Science - There will be a test on chapter 3 on Friday, March 1st.

  • Geography - Their presentation about a Latin American country is due on Monday.
