Class News 5-25

  1. Service Hours are due next Friday!  Also, any missing work or tests that have not been taken need to be completed by then.  Make sure to have your child check Fast Direct!

  2. There will be no Friday Letter for the rest of the school year.  Some end of year notes:

  3. The week of June 4th, please send your child to school with extra bags to take home things from their lockers.  All textbooks and novels that belong to the school should be turned in as soon as possible.  

  4. On Monday or Tuesday, June 5th or 6th, the 6-8th grade will be walking to Portage Park to hang out before lunch, eating lunch in the park, and playing some softball/other games before heading back.  Mrs. Franklin will let you know the exact details next week after checking the weather report.

Check out what we are learning this week:


Reading:

Reading 2--We will end our last unit of the school year this week.  It deals with myths, legends, and folktales. We will subsequently compare the three similar genres in a brief essay on Thursday.

 Social Studies:

The students will take their cumulative Civil War test on Thursday, May 31st. They will also be watching Lincoln next week.

Class News 5-18



  1. Recognition Dinner is on tonight!  Your child needs to be there to help serve  at 5:45 PM. One parent/guardian should also accompany them.  Help is needed through the end of the program that night.

  2. The Spring Concert is on Thursday @ 7PM.  Your child should arrive by 6:45 and meet in the gym.

Reading:

Reading 2--We will begin our last unit of the school year this week.  It deals with myths, legends, and folktales.

Reading 3--This week we will be viewing the movie Valkyrie which is about the plot to assassinate Hitler.  We will then compare the two novels with the movie as well as various non-fiction articles.  The culmination will be a 5-paragraph essay discussing the different forms of media and their portrayal of the events.   


Science:

Next week, the class will review information from chapters 1 & 2 and will retake their test.


Social Studies:

We will be finishing our study of the Civil War next week and there will be a cumulative Civil War test on Thursday, May 31st.

Class News 5-11



  1. We will be MAP Testing on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Please make sure your child has a good breakfast and is prepared to take two tests each day.  If you would like to send them with a healthy snack those days, please do so.

  2. The Ice Cream Social/Book Fair is today from 3:00-8:30PM.  Come on out and buy some books and ice cream. I hope to see you all there!

Math:This week Math 2 wrap up their unit on Chapter 8, "Analyzing Data".  They will take a test at the end of next week. Pre-Algebra will continue to study Chapter 11, "Right Triangles in Algebra".

Reading:

Reading 3--We will be finishing our WWII Literature Circle this week.  Afterwards, we will be viewing the movie Valkyrie which is about the plot to assassinate Hitler.  We will then compare the two novels with the movie as well as various non-fiction articles.  The culmination will be a 5-paragraph essay discussing the different forms of media and their portrayal of the events.  


English: We will take a Chapter 14/15 test on Tuesday, May 15th.  


Science: There will be a test on chapter 3 on Thursday, May 17th.

Class News 5-4

  1. Mrs. Uffenbeck is looking for 4 more 6-8th grade volunteers for Vacation Bible School. It's an excellent way to serve others and share the Gospel message during a fun week over the summer. Please contact Mrs. Uffenbeck with questions or to register as a volunteer.

Check out what we are learning this week!

Math:

This week Math 2 began a new unit.  Over the next couple of weeks, they will be studying Chapter 8, "Analyzing Data".  Students will work in groups to collect and analyze data from students who they survey.  On Monday, Pre-Algebra will take a test over Chapter 10, "Area & Volume". Then they will begin to study Chapter 11, "Right Triangles in Algebra".


Reading:

Reading 2--Essay test for The Giver is due on Monday.  We will then spend next week working on projects to demonstrate our learning.

Reading 3--We have finished reading Boy in the Striped Pajamas.  We have moved on to reading another WWII book in a literature circle.  Ask your student what book they are reading! Our goal is to write an essay comparing the two novels, along with a video that we will watch once the literature circle concludes.  


Social Studies:

Next week we will be watching the movie Glory which is the story of the first African American regiment in the Civil War.


Science:

There will be a test on chapters 1 & 2 on Monday.

Class News 4-20

  1. I sent you all a FastDirect message already, but I wanted to remind you that we will be building/painting the set on Monday night at 6PM.  Please join us if you can! Also, make sure that your child has their costume here next week!

  2. Thank-you for all of the  support for the Auction! I hope to see you all there on Saturday!

  3. Don’t forget that the musical Charleston will be taking place on Friday and Saturday nights, starting at 7PM.

Check out what we are learning this week!

Math:

Math 2 will wrap up studying Chapter 7, “Surface Area & Volume”.  There will be a test on Friday, April 28. Pre-Algebra will continue with Chapter 10 “Area & Volume”.  Next week they will switch their focus of surface area to volume.


Reading:

Reading 2--We will continue or novel, The Giver.  Students will continue to take quizzes in the form of comprehension and short answer questions after each reading assignment.  

  

Reading 3--We will finish reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas in the next week.  Afterwards, we will break into literature circles to read another WWII novel--either Anne Frank, Night, or The Thought of High Windows.  We will then compare the novels we read.  


Social Studies:

This past week, we started our study of the Civil War. This study will take us to the end of the year and there will be a cumulative Civil War test toward the end of May.
