Memory -

Math -

Pre-Algebra will be taking a test on Chapter 6, “Ratios, Proportions & Percents” on Tuesday (1/29).  Algebra will be taking a test on Chapter 7, “Systems of Equations” on Thursday (1/31).

English -

The 8th grade Argumentative Essays rough draft is due Thursday (1/31).  

Science -

There is a test on chapter 3 on Monday, January 28th.

Geography -

We have started our study of Latin America. They will be taking two map tests this unit. The first one will be Central America, and the study guide will be sent home next week. The test will be on Thursday, February 7th.

We will be MAP testing on Monday and Tuesday, February 4th and 5th.

Math -

Pre-Algebra will be wrapping up their study of Chapter 6, “Ratios, Proportions & Percents”.  They will be studying percent of change and markups and discounts. Algebra will continue to study Chapter 7, “Systems of Equations”.  The focus will be on the process of elimination and applying systems.

Social Studies -

Next week, 8th grade will wrap up their study of Chapter 8, “The Rise of Dictators & World War II.”  They will spend the week working on their group project “ABCs of WWII”. The Chapter 8 Test will be on Thursday, January 24 and their group project is due on Friday, January 25.  

English -

8th grade has begun the writing process for their Argumentative Essays.  Annotated bibliographies for each source will be due on Tuesday (1-22), and note cards on Friday (1-25).

Memory -

There will be no memory work this week.

Math -

Pre-Algebra class will wrap up their unit on Chapter 5, “Operations with Fractions”.  They will have a test on Wednesday, December 19. Algebra class will conclude their study of Chapter 6, “Linear Equations & their Graphs”.  They will have a test on Tuesday, December 18.

Social Studies -

The 8th grade will finish their  study of Chapter 7, “The Great Depression & The New Deal”.  They will take a test on Wednesday, December 19.

12 Days of Christmas Kindness -

The 8th grade is 7 days in on their Kindness Challenge.  Don’t forget to check with your 8th grader to see how they are doing with the tasks at hand.

Christmas Party -

Next Friday, our 8th grade class will celebrate the blessing of Christmas together.  We will have a party during the morning, it would be wonderful if every family can donate something.  Talk with your child and let me know what you are able to donate.

Math -

Pre-Algebra will continue to study Chapter 5, "Operations with Fractions".  Algebra will continue to study Chapter 6, "Linear Equations & their Graphs".  The focus will be on point-slope form and perpendicular & parallel lines.  

Social Studies -

This week 8th grade each began to invest and trade their own $100,000 in a stock market challenge.  The class will compete to see who has the most money on March 1, 2019. They will continue to have some mini-lessons that will help them with their stock investments.  Next week they will begin to study Chapter 7, “The Great Depression & The New Deal”.

12 Days of Christmas Kindness -

On Thursday, the countdown of school days until Christmas break began.  For each of those days, 8th grade will be challenged to a different random act of kindness.  They will reflect on their tasks on Google Classroom. I encourage you to talk with your son or daughter at home about their Kindness Challenge for each day.  

Coffee Hour -

8th grade has coffee hour on this Sunday, December 9.  Set-up technically starts at 7:30 am but you should be here no later than 8:30 am (especially if you are bringing a donation of food).  Serving coffee hour is from 9:00 until about 10:30 am. Once we are cleaned up, you are free to go.

Math -

Math 2 will continue to work on their unit of Chapter 3, “Inequalities”.  Next week they will focus on solving two-step inequalities. Pre-Algebra will continue to work on the unit of Chapter 5 on “Operations with Fractions”.    Algebra will continue an unit on Chapter 6, “Linear Equations & their Graphs”. The focus next week will be on standard form and point-slope form.

Social Studies -

This past week, 8th grade studied “The Roaring Twenties”.  There will be a test over material on Monday. For the rest of the week, 8th grade will take some time to learn about the stock market.  Each individual will have an opportunity to see what it is like to invest fake money into the stock market.

Geography -

The final states and capitals test will be on Thursday, November 6th. They need to know all 50 states and capitals and the location of the states.


Christmas Program -

All of the 8th graders need to be at school on Wednesday, December 5th @ 6:30 pm for the Christmas Program.  Come dressed to impressed. The program will begin at 7:00 pm in the church.

Coffee Hour -

The 8th grade class is supposed to host Coffee Hour on Sunday, December 9.   Hosting coffee hour means that we are supposed to set-up, provide & serve refreshments, and clean-up.
